From Backyard Beats to Cultural Blueprint Shebeen Fest Turns One

Harare, July 2025 — A year ago, Shebeen Fest began quietly, with low turnout—but a flame was lit. From its early days behind Moto Republik, to an expansion at Little Farm, and back again — the festival has become Zimbabwe’s urban cultural compass. Now, with the upcoming SHEBIVESARY +1 Party on July 19 at Moto Republik, one year of creative resistance comes full circle.
The inaugural edition was intimate—in attendance but massive in ambition. This was where Dough Major and Dingo Duke unveiled their breakout anthem “Zvenharo”—a grassroots earworm that defined Shebeen Fest’s early energy. Even with a modest crowd, the movement was underway.
August 2024: Frenz Edition
The second month saw the courtyard fill with crews, thrift fits, spontaneous cyphers, and that unmistakable sense of community takeover—Shebeen Fest had found its people.
September 2024: Badness Loaded
Heavy bars, heavy presence. The yard echoed with unapologetic energy—each rhyme felt like a declaration.
October 2024: Freezit Edition
Ice-cold drinks, chilled vibes, and raw talent. A laid-back edition proving the festival’s flexibility in mood and flow.
November 2024: Shorts & Cooler Box Edition
Shorts, cooler boxes, and street couture came together in a perfect fusion—heat, fashion, and community refreshment became one experience.
December 2024: Santa Edition
Thrifted Santa hats, Afro-Jazz remixes, festive street eats—it was holiday spirit with edge and urban flair.
February 2025: Findaz Keepaz
A creative scavenger hunt led fans to hidden DJ sets and surprise performances—Shebeen Fest played hide-and-seek with Hunks’ energy and openness.
March 2025: Merch Bhero XPerience
Fashion took center stage. Designers, thrift vendors, DIY merch—and the yard transformed into a walking brand showcase. Hosted by Hupenyu, this edition was equal parts runway and ritual.
April 2025: BYO Unlocked (Bulawayo Takeover)
The festival met another city. Tapping into Bulawayo’s vibrant hip‑hop heritage proved Shebeen Fest wasn’t confined to Harare—it was national culture in transit.
May 2025: Croc Party
Croc-patterned streetwear, croc stickers, and sonic bites—this edition struck with sharp precision. The energy was fierce, playful, undeniable .
June 2025: Super vs Nyathi Edition
A cultural clash celebrated through opaque beers—but the real battle was bars, fashion, energy, and fan loyalty. From Blakk3st to Dough Major, every act reaffirmed Shebeen Fest’s role as culture warzone with style.

Why It Matters
Shebeen Fest is grounded in authenticity. It’s not corporate. No sponsors, no stage stunts—just creators, culture, and community. Every edition has given space to voices that might otherwise stay underground; every theme tested a vibe; every venue shift widened the map.
This is a festival built from the ground up—by creatives, for creatives—and it’s become a monthly ritual of emergence.
