The Shebeen Festival continues to carve out its place as Zimbabwe’s premier hub for young creatives, and the March edition—dubbed Shebeen Merch Bhero XPerience—was no exception. Known for its signature fusion of food, drinks, live music, and good vibes, this month’s installment brought an exciting new twist: thrift store vendors were invited to showcase their merchandise, blending seamlessly with the theme of the day, Bhero XPerience.

Hosted by the dynamic and ever-vibrant Hupenyu, the event was a melting pot of artistic expression. Artists, fashion enthusiasts, and music lovers all converged to celebrate creativity. From the moment the show kicked off, the atmosphere was electric. Shebeen is more than just a festival—it’s a movement. This edition proved exactly that. The energy was contagious, and attendees knew they were in for an unforgettable night.

Ndonzi Beatx wasted no time setting the tone for the evening with a powerful performance of his track Ndonzi. As the first notes rang out, the crowd was immediately hooked. His commanding stage presence kept everyone engaged, dancing, and chanting along. It was a memorable opening act that set the bar high for the night ahead.

Then came the Shebeen Boys—Dingo Duke, Dough Major, Dilly1Buck, and Ndonzi Beatx—who showed why they are the heartbeat of the Shebeen movement. Their synergy was undeniable as they delivered a performance packed with infectious energy and seamless transitions. Just when the crowd thought they had seen it all, Dilly1Buck surprised everyone with an unreleased single. A hush of anticipation fell over the audience. The first notes hit, and within seconds, the venue erupted with excitement. Fans vibed to every lyric, fully immersed in the moment. This unexpected highlight not only demonstrated his artistic growth but also reaffirmed the Shebeen Boys’ impact on the scene.

Switching up the tempo, Dumiso took the stage with a compelling spoken word performance. His profound lyricism and gripping delivery provided a reflective moment amidst the high-energy musical acts. A fan in the crowd was overheard saying, “His words hit deep—this is the kind of art that stays with you.” It was a powerful reminder that Shebeen is not just about music; it’s about storytelling in all its forms.

Adding a touch of soul to the evening, Enhle and Nessa Gold enchanted the audience with their smooth, chilled-out vibes. Their mesmerizing performances provided a beautiful contrast to the festival’s more energetic moments. The shift in mood was intentional, allowing the audience to absorb the artistry in a different way. Shebeen continues to prove its dedication to showcasing a variety of artistic styles.

Then, LipsyJay turned up the heat. Her electrifying presence had the ladies twerking and the crowd hyped, creating one of the most talked-about moments of the night. Just when it seemed the energy couldn’t go any higher, Sai Music delivered a jaw-dropping surprise. Revealing an unexpected rockstar side to her artistry, she and her band, Echoes of Saiiren, unleashed an alternative-rock-infused set that left the crowd in awe. One fan shouted, “She just took Shebeen to another level!”—a sentiment that quickly spread through the venue as people soaked in her bold, genre-defying performance.

Hip-hop fans were in for a treat with an impressive lineup featuring Danny N, Wes the Rapper, The Originals, King Pharaoh, Talkmunny, Darrel, RayKaz, and SANE. Each artist brought their own unique flair, delivering razor-sharp bars and infectious rhythms that kept the crowd engaged. The standout moment of this segment came when Bhimu played, igniting the audience into a chorus of chants demanding an encore. The night was alive with raw energy and a shared love for hip-hop.

As the night reached its climax, Kayflow took the stage as the main act. His closing set was nothing short of electrifying. With unmatched stage presence, he kept the audience hooked until the very last beat. The energy in the venue peaked, marking a fitting end to a night filled with unforgettable performances.

Beyond the music, what truly makes ShebeenFest special is the sense of community it fosters among young Zimbabwean creatives. The introduction of thrift vendors this month added a fresh dynamic to the festival, seamlessly blending fashion and music. Attendees browsed unique pieces, networked, and immersed themselves in a cultural experience that reinforced Shebeen’s role as a platform for artistic collaboration and creative expression.

Compared to last month’s edition, Shebeen Merch Bhero Edition showed remarkable growth—not just in attendance but in the quality of performances and production. The festival has solidified itself as the go-to platform for emerging artists. It’s a space where they can showcase their craft, experiment with new sounds, and connect with a passionate audience.

As ShebeenFest continues to evolve, one thing remains clear: this is not just a festival—it’s a movement shaping the future of Zimbabwe’s creative scene. With each edition raising the bar, anticipation for what’s next continues to grow. Until next time, keep the Shebeen vibes alive!
